Tennis Club Coach of the Year 2018
Stu has been at the club since 2009 and has seen the club grow to and maintain its position as the largest Junior club in the country.
He overseas all aspects of the coaching programme at the club including the 10 other coaches that the club employs.
He has been coaching for the best part of 30 years starting in a part time basis in the late 80’s and moving to full time coaching in 1991.
He was the club coach at Burwood Park Tennis Club in the 90’s.
As Canterbury Regional coach for eight years commencing in 1998, he coached two players to National Junior singles titles, Ellen Barry and Alice Laing in the 2000’s.
Along with Co-coach Glenn Wilson they claimed 6 of the 12 National titles on offer for the Canterbury region at the 2004 Nationals, a feat that to date has not been repeated.
Numerous players under his tutelage have gained US college scholarships.
He has been a National Junior selector, coach of National U-18’s Boys team, was TNZ Coachforce officer for the South Island for 3 years and has been heavily involved in coach education for nearly 20 years.
He was a co-author of the Grasshoppers National Mini Tennis programme rolled out across the Nation in the mid 2000s.
It was after a short stint as Football Development Manager for Mainland Football that he was appointed to the Head Coach position at Waimairi, he is a former New Zealand Youth International Footballer.
