Unfortunately our Men’s Premier team will NOT be playing at Waimairi today. Edgeware have had to default the semi-final to us, due to some last minute injuries. The Women’s team is still playing at Burnside, 2.30pm, so please go & support if you can.
Its been coffee time at the club recently with the appearance of the Plunge Cafe mobile coffee van operated by Sue Ward and Nick Bray. Saturday mornings are very busy at the the club as our Junior programme has its biggest coaching day and the addition of the coffee van has added a nice vibe to the place. Big thanks to Sue and Nick for their efforts and if the van makes another appearance make sure you sample one of their coffees !!
Sunday November 17th, the club held a special function for our Life members in honour of their commitment and dedication to the club.
As part of the function Adam Gard’ner, Senior coach, gave an overview of the Junior programme with particular emphasis on the graduated system of development for young players based on court size and ball type. The group were then entertained by our four scholarship girls, Vera Goesmann, Lily Bray, Michal and Holly Matson playing a set of doubles.Club President Lloyd Russell said the event was ..”thoroughly enjoyed by all those that attended”

6 coaches from the club attended the Red Cross Essential First aid course today. Eight hours of first aid instruction was presented in a fun and interesting manner by our instructor Rick.We now have at least eight of our coaches registered as First Aiders.
After a hugely successful morning with the Juniors it was the turn of the Senior section to celebrate the opening of the season. The afternoon saw a mix of Senior and Junior players playing a number of rounds of doubles before the official opening from Patron, Des Brading(pictured). Full courts meant plenty of time for those not playing to catch up with friends.
Des was also on hand to present the trophies to the winners of the club champs from earlier in the year.
Mark Barnes, board member of CTI, gave us an update on the state of Wilding Park and some insights into the general activities of tennis in Canterbury.
The day wound up with the traditional barbecue and beverages, a primer for the big test later that night. A big thanks to all those that attended for helping make such a positive start to the new season.
