Senior Singles Club Champs
The WTC Senior Singles club champs were held on 9 April with the day sporting idyllic tennis weather. Four events took place, commencing at 9:30m. The Women’s Open was well contested, but the most popular event was the Men’s B Grade with 16 entrants.
The day went exceedingly well, with players and spectators alike enjoying the tennis and atmosphere. Lloyd’s slightly odd vantage point was noted.
Highlights included:
- Mark Gilbert doing a marathon effort with 3 matches back to back, all the while playing great tennis.
- Stephen Campen and Nick Bray abiding the gentlemanly approach, politely chatting for 5 minutes during end changes.
- The inclusion of the young Margo Dalling in the Women’s B grade.
- The Men’s Open was much enjoyed by spectators, particularly the final between Simon Mooney and Ben Hyde-Smith. It was a tremendously hard-fought final.
- In the Women’s Open final, Freya Maguire played a very well-thought, low error game against Noriko Burra who chased down every ball.
The Club Captains and Manager would like to thank everyone for their participation and making the day a great one.
